Dance workshop Moving Civil Rights through Dr. King's Principles of Nonviolence is designed for
Grade 2 and aligns with Wit and Wisdom Module 3: Civil Rights Heroes.
Students:
- examine iconic Civil Rights heroes through tableau (body shapes) and movement
- explore how these brave people used Dr. King’s Principles of Nonviolence.
- investigate the key vocabulary words civil rights, equality, freedom, integrate, marshal, and segregation.
- build content knowledge by embodying people who responded to injustice.
Grade 4 and aligns with Wit and Wisdom Module 1: A Great Heart.
Students:
- examine iconic Civil Rights heroes with brave hearts through tableau (body shapes) and movement.
- explore how these people used Dr. King’s Principles of Nonviolence to help others.
- investigate the key vocabulary words courage, greathearted and reaction.
- build content knowledge by understanding what it means to be greathearted and work for justice.
Grade 5 and aligns with Wit and Wisdom Module 4: Breaking Barriers.
Students:
- examine iconic Civil Rights heroes through tableau (body shapes) and movement.
- explore how these people used Dr. King’s Principles of Nonviolence to break barriers.
- investigate the key vocabulary words discriminate, integrating/integration, racism, and segregation.
- build content knowledge by understanding those who challenged and overcame barriers.
