This program engages Pre-K students in playful learning that brings picture books to life with the arts. Each workshop includes:
1) Artful warm-up games that introduce the theme of our picture book of the day.
2) A picture book experience, pausing on selected pages for fun interactions with the text.
3) An artful activity -- depending on the book of the day, this might include classroom theater, music, movement, or a simple visual art or craft.
4) A closing circle activity that emphasizes the message or theme of the book.
Through story and cooperative play, this program builds early literacy skills (such as vocabulary development, alphabet knowledge, comprehension of book and story components, and oral language development) while fostering a love of books and reading.
If desired, teachers can select a picture book in advance from a list provided by Leslie or request a particular topic or theme to support the class curriculum.
