About Leslie Johnson
I believe in the power of the arts to actively engage students in the writing and learning process! I am an experienced educator, published writer, and Teaching Artist who is committed to bringing the joy of creativity to students while supporting classroom teachers and their curriculum goals. I design my arts-infused poetry lessons with the multiple intelligences to engage students with diverse learning styles. My lively, interactive workshops for grades K-8 blend poetry and classroom performance to bring the writing process to life in your classroom! Even reluctant writers have fun and gain confidence during my hands-on writing workshops. Brief Biography: I received an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Arizona, where I also conducted research in English Education. My fiction has been broadcast on National Public Radio, published in a wide range of literary journals, and awarded the 2017 Pushcart Prize. I have received awards from the University of Arizona and University of Hartford for excellence in teaching and creative scholarship. As a Teaching Artist for Hartford Performs and the CT Office of the Arts, I lead interactive workshops for students of all ages. I also conduct professional development seminars for schools, museums, and organizations around the state. I have been designated an Arts Leader by Hartford Performs. “Leslie Johnson is a talented and experienced Teaching Artist who excites and motivates students to participate in creative writing lessons.
