This workshop is aligned to Grade 1 Module 1: A World of Books.

Library Boogie is an interactive musical puppet show that inspires a love of reading through music, storytelling, humor, and audience participation.

Students sing, dance with colorful scarves, play shaker eggs, and become part of classic folktales alongside Tom's handmade puppet friends. Original songs -including The Library Boogie and the bilingual movement song Alligator Jump / ¡Salta Caimán! - invite every student to participate while strengthening literacy, listening, and communication skills.

Designed for students in grades K–3, the performance brings stories to life through memorable characters, music, and interactive problem-solving. Students are encouraged to predict what happens next, respond to the characters, and participate throughout the stories with songs, movement, and discussion.

Learning outcomes include:

Reinforcing story structure and sequencing
Encouraging enthusiasm for reading and libraries
Strengthening listening, speaking, and oral language skills
Introducing classic folktales through music and storytelling

Every performance is joyful, developmentally appropriate, and designed to create meaningful connections between books, music, and imagination.

This program is designed for all participating classrooms to experience together. Audience sizes of 40–80 students are ideal. A library, auditorium, cafeteria, gym, or other large space where students can gather for the performance works well. I typically require about one hour for setup before the program begins.

If a screen or TV is available, I'd love to use it to display digital backgrounds during portions of the performance. This enhances the visual experience but is not required.

Two songs include student participation with shaker eggs. I always bring my own, but if your school has shaker eggs available, using them can save setup time.

I typically require about 60 minutes for setup and 45 minutes for breakdown. A performance area approximately 6 feet wide by 6 feet deep with access to a standard electrical outlet works well. Student... Read more
