This creative writing and theater program, "Poems for Science: Animals and Habitats," is designed for grades 1-5 and aligns with Wit & Wisdom Grade 1 Module #2: Creature Features. This three-day program combines drama, musical soundscapes, and playful creative writing activities to involve students in learning about animals and how they adapt to their habitats.
Leslie brings hands-on musical instruments and provides colorful, accessible research sources for students to use. Classroom activities include "habitat theater" about the rainforest or another habitat with props and sound effects (everyone gets to participate!); visual art creations; expressive poetry that combines facts from research with poetic techniques; and fun "game show" and soundscape poetry performances.
