Comics + Collage = Connections is a Visual Arts workshop that aligns with Grade 4, Wit & Wisdom Module 1: A Great Heart. By exploring multiple perspectives students will develop empathy and a deeper understanding of themselves and others.
Students explore both literal and figurative language as they create narratives using collage. By combining seemingly unrelated images, they discover unexpected connections and practice seeing ideas from multiple points of view.
Through collage and comic-making, students:
--Use random images to create new and meaningful visual narratives.
--Make unexpected connections between images, ideas, and emotions.
--Learn and apply comic art conventions, including panels, speech bubbles, and the concept of closure to communicate meaning.
--As students experiment with visual storytelling, they are encouraged to think creatively, interpret images in different ways, and express ideas with imagination and intention.
The workshop fosters curiosity, flexible thinking, and connection, helping students discover how different perspectives can lead to new understanding.
