MINDFULNESS, MUSIC & CONNECTION (Grades 6–8)
This wellness program introduces mindfulness through music, movement, and sound-based relaxation. Students engage in guided meditation, group drumming, chant-based movement, and focused listening to instruments such as singing bowls and Native American flute. The program emphasizes emotional awareness, healthy decision-making, and respectful communication, while encouraging students to connect sound and rhythm to the “Great Heart” both the physical heartbeat and inner awareness.
Program Structure (Approx. 50 minutes)
0:00–3:00 – Introductions and overview
3:00–10:00 – Group stretching (yoga/Qi Gong-inspired)
10:00–30:00 – Group rhythm and drumming circle (shared “Big Unity Drums”)
30:00–40:00 – Chant and movement (“Round Dance” with percussion)
40:00–50:00 – Sound relaxation (“sound bath”) and closing reflection
Focus on self-awareness, identity, and personal expression. Students explore how rhythm, sound, and movement connect to the Great Heart—the steady beat within the body and the emotional center that guides thoughts and actions. Activities encourage deeper listening, creative collaboration, and confidence in expressing ideas through music and movement.
Students also reflect on how mindfulness can support focus, stress management, and positive relationships in daily life.
Expected Outcomes
Improved focus, reduced stress and anxiety, stronger emotional awareness, and increased confidence in self-expression and collaboration.
