In Comics + Collage = Connections students engage with collage materials while being challenged to go outside their comfort zones and make new connections. Students creatively combine, design, and organize words and images to express themselves visually and verbally to the classroom audience. This fun and engaging program introduces Comic Arts conventions, from panels to closure, while building literacy and communication skills. This program will connect to Wit & Wisdom modules asking students to see a story or conflict from both sides. This program introduces elements of comic arts which will inform comic strip creation. It also provides an opportunity for students to play with both literal and figurative language, as they learn to see content from multiple points of view. Content, techniques and vocabulary are adjusted and stepped up for grade level complexity. This workshop can be adjusted to address specific areas of concern, for examples a topic such as bullying, or a literacy concerns such as point-of-view, transition, sequencing. This is an excellent exploration of seeing from more than one point of view looking for an unexpected connection.
