In Comics + Collage = Connections students enjoy the challenge of going outside their comfort zones to make new connections with collage materials and comic arts format and conventions. Students creatively combine, design, and organize words and images to express themselves to the classroom audience. They are challenged to consider their habitual responses to images and to then perceive the materials from another point of view. Students will have the opportunity to share their work and their intent with their peers. This fun and engaging program uses the multiple intelligences to teach visual art standards while building literacy skills through exploration and discovery. Content, techniques and vocabulary are adjusted and stepped up for grade level complexity. This workshop can be adjusted to address specific areas of concern, for examples a topic such as bullying, or a literacy concerns such as point-of-view, transition, sequencing.
