In Literacy Through Rap and Poetry students will engage in writing and verbal expressions, through self-exploration and problem solving while learning. Students will explore current societal events and inner thoughts, while being challenged to vocalize their thoughts. Students will create Raps and Poems that enforce the Connecticut Common Core. Student creativity will supplement classroom instruction towards Assessment Goal and Mastery.

With the support and guidance of adults, students will produce writings that are developed an organized, as well as age appropriate to task and purpose. Students will also write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons.

Students will identify and express elements of Rap and Poetry skills. This will allow them to demonstrate accuracy in writing and verbal expression. Students will rap and express poetry with a varied repertoire of songs. They will rap and express poetry independently, with proper pitch, rhythm, timbre, diction, posture, and steady tempo.
