This 5-day program uses the Jigsaw Technique within a social-emotional learning framework, employing collaborative screenwriting as a tool for artistic and interpersonal growth while highlighting prose and narrative storytelling.
Each student joins a 4-person home group and specializes in one stage of story creation with specific jobs (Perspective Researcher, Conflict Architect, Voice Writer, or Feedback & Reflection Lead).
Students meet with other members of their "expert groups" to learn together and share ideas before returning to their "home groups" to lead their leg of the process. While expert students lead, the rest of their group participates in each stage of the story creation. Between sessions 1 and 4, students will find ways, with the help of their teacher classroom teacher and me, to impactfully tell their stories that will touch on one of the following themes:
- Friendship and Belonging
- Conflict and Perspectives"
- Emotional Regulation
- Failure and Resilience
- Empathy and Community
On day 5, students will have the option of sharing their stories as a table read, a prop-less performance, or a presentation of their process and key elements (with assistance if they are not comfortable speaking).
Share day scenes can be filmed or photographed for school and HP purposes with permission for each students. Some film set props will be incorporated [clapboard, clipboard, megaphone, director's chair, etc.]
