This joyful Pre-K movement program uses African dance, rhythm, storytelling, music, and age-appropriate somatic movement to support calm, confidence, body awareness, listening skills, and creative expression.

Through simple guided movement, rhythm games, call-and-response, imagination, and storytelling, young children explore how their bodies can move, feel, listen, express, and connect with others. Students practice basic movement skills such as clapping, stomping, balancing, swaying, turning, freezing, and moving safely in space.

The program also supports early self-regulation by helping children notice their bodies, use breath and rhythm to calm down, follow movement cues, and express emotions in healthy ways. Students build confidence as they participate in dance, respond to music, share ideas through movement, and feel celebrated in a supportive group environment.

Classroom learning is supported through early math skills such as counting beats, patterns, rhythm, and sequencing, as well as early science connections such as body parts, balance, coordination, movement, and how the body moves safely.

Students will be provided with age-appropriate movement prompts, rhythm games, storytelling prompts, call-and-response activities, calming practices, breathing exercises, and guided creative movement activities. Simple visual supports may also be provided when needed to help students connect movement, emotions, rhythm, body parts, story, and classroom themes.

This program requires an open, safe movement space such as a classroom with furniture moved aside, a gym, dance room, multipurpose room, or carpet area. Students should have enough space to move safely, sit for storytelling, and participate in guided dance, rhythm, and creative movement activities.

A Bluetooth speaker or sound system should be available for music and rhythm activities. Students may begin seated in a circle or on the carpet for storytelling, listening, and movement cues, then transition into standing movement activities.

A classroom teacher or staff member should remain present for the full session to support student safety, participation, transitions, and classroom expectations.

3. Use movement to express emotions, imagination, story, culture, and confidence.

4. Practice calming and focusing strategies through breath, rhythm, body awareness, and guided movement.

5. Identify simple vocabulary connected to body parts, movement, rhythm, emotions, listening, feeling, story, and community.

6. Participate respectfully with classmates by listening, taking turns, following directions, and celebrating one another.
