Write Your Own Spoken Word "Name Rap!" Students will jump into the exciting world of spoken word by creating a personalized rap that celebrates who they are! Through high-energy improv games like "5 Things" and "Word Ball," students will loosen up, think on their feet, spark their creativity, and overcome stage fright in a fun, supportive environment. Next, they'll discover how easy writing can be using the classic improv technique "Yes, And..." Beginning with a simple topic, students build their poems one line at a time by adding "Yes, and..." details, turning spontaneous ideas into original spoken word poetry while learning that there are no wrong answers in the creative process.

Using this playful approach, students will learn the structure of a freestyle Spoken Word "Name Rap" and transform their ideas into a performance they'll be proud to share. They'll personalize their poems by highlighting what makes them unique—their culture and diversity, hobbies, interests, likes and dislikes, family traditions, goals, and dreams. Students are also encouraged to connect their writing to what they're learning in class by weaving in current events, historical figures, literature, science, or other curriculum topics. By blending improv, theater, English Language Arts, and spoken word, students strengthen their creative writing, public speaking, collaboration, and self-confidence while discovering the power of their own voice.

Step Two-15mins
Brainstorm & Write:
Students do a short writing warm-up based on the improv game "Yes, And" and on a topic of the student's or teacher's choosing. Examples are "What makes you unique," "Diversity," "Current Event," "Historical Topic"

Step Three- 15mins
Each student will write a short 5–14 line Spoken Word "Name Rap" poem using their own voice and ideas; we will then rehearse and present it in a rhythm and rhyme circle. (3-4rounds depending on class size)

Step Four-5mins
Closing and Re-group
One-word recap "Learned/Liked/Felt" along with a grounding pass the energy closing.
