This theatre workshop and live performance experience, "Exploring Storytelling and Character Through Live Theatre," is designed for K–5 students and aligns with Wit & Wisdom Module 2: Once Upon a Farm (Kindergarten).

Through theatre games, character exploration, improvisation, and collaborative storytelling activities, students investigate what makes a good story by exploring characters, setting, sequence, and narrative elements. As students examine the world of Charlotte’s Web, they engage with key vocabulary from the module, including character, setting, story, and sequence, while strengthening their understanding of how writers create meaningful narratives. Students use performance techniques such as movement, voice, and role-play to interpret characters and express their understanding of the story’s ideas.

The experience builds content knowledge connected to farm life and storytelling by exploring how characters, relationships, and events work together to create a compelling narrative. Through the journey of Wilbur, Charlotte, and their friends on Zuckerman’s Farm, students consider how stories can communicate themes of friendship, kindness, and courage while developing their own appreciation for the craft of storytelling.

Students will then experience a live touring performance of "Charlotte’s Web" at their school, where they can continue exploring the characters, story elements, and theatrical choices introduced through the production. After the performance, students will participate in a 10–15 minute post-show Q&A with the cast and creative team, providing an opportunity to ask questions, learn about the creative process, and reflect on how artists bring stories to life. Educators will also receive an interactive study guide featuring classroom activities, discussion prompts, and supplemental resources, including interviews with the director and creative team, designed to extend learning before and after the performance.

Our touring performances are scheduled from Monday, March 1, through Friday, March 19, 2027. Performances are available Monday through Friday at 9:30 AM and 1:30 PM, with flexibility to accommodate your school’s schedule when possible. Schools are welcome to book both time slots on the same day, providing an opportunity to bring this engaging theatre experience to even larger groups of students.

The touring production runs for approximately one hour and does not include an intermission. Following the performance, students will have the opportunity to participate in a 10–15-minute meet-and-greet and Q&A session with the cast. This interactive conversation allows students to ask questions about the characters, performance, and theatrical process while deepening their connection to the story and the actors who brought it to life.

Students and educators will receive an interactive electronic study guide designed to extend the learning experience beyond the performance. The guide includes theatrical terms, character insights, classroom activities, discussion prompts, and creative extensions that encourage students to explore the story, themes, and elements of live theatre. Students and teachers will also have access to supplemental resources, including interviews with the director and creative team, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the process of bringing "Charlotte’s Web" from the page to the stage. These materials provide meaningful opportunities for reflection, connection, and continued exploration long after the final curtain.

Our touring production includes everything needed to create a memorable theatre experience for your students—we bring the performance, the performers, and the magic of live storytelling directly to you. No extensive preparation or special resources are needed on your part; simply provide a space for students to gather and enjoy the show!

To ensure a successful touring performance, we ask that schools provide an appropriate performance space with a minimum 10-foot ceiling height to accommodate our set. A secondary area for actors to prepare before the performance is also required. Audience seating should allow students to comfortably view and engage with the performance while maintaining an appropriate distance from the playing area.

Suitable spaces may include a gymnasium, auditorium, cafeteria, or other large gathering space that can accommodate the production needs. When scheduling your performance, please consider avoiding conflicts with fire drills, emergency drills, early dismissals, or other school-wide events to ensure the best possible experience for students and performers.

Students will identify and analyze key elements of storytelling, including characters, setting, and sequence of events, by exploring how these elements are brought to life through the characters and world of "Charlotte’s Web."

Students will examine how characters’ choices, relationships, and experiences communicate important ideas and themes, such as friendship, kindness, and courage, while developing a deeper understanding of how stories create meaning.

Students will engage as active audience members by observing, interpreting, and reflecting on the live theatrical performance of "Charlotte’s Web." Through guided discussion and classroom resources, students will explore how actors, storytelling choices, and theatrical elements transform a written story into a meaningful shared experience.
