A four-lesson residency combining music, theater, movement, and discussion to develop leadership, self-control, and positive decision-making skills. Students engage in call-and-response songs, interactive games, and group theater activities that encourage empathy, teamwork, and confidence.

Lesson 1 – Introduction to Leadership & Positive Choice
1. Call-and-Response Song Activity: “I Know My Destiny” (with movement) – Students discuss the song’s meaning as a whole group.
2. Icebreaker: Destiny Name Syllable Movement Circle Activity.
3. Group Identity: Students form small theater groups and establish their group name for the week through an interactive activity.
4. Leadership Activity:
Leadership game in small theater groups
Brainstorm and discuss characteristics of a good leader
5. Close-Out: Ago A-May Empowerment Chant (Part 1) – Group call-and-response with staging and movement.
Lesson 2 – Responding to Challenges
1. Empowerment Chant: Ago A-May (adding Part 2).
2. Leadership Activity: Leadership game.
3. Situational Story 1 – “What We Face Every Day at School”
Discussion on teasing, bullying, and peer pressure
Understanding that losing self-control is giving away personal power
4. Empowerment Activity: Ah-huh, I GotchU – Chant using rhythm, words, and music as a verbal power shield to combat negative behavior.
5. Group Theater:
Small groups create short situational stories from theater card prompts
Act out silently so peers guess problem, solution, and leadership skills
Write first draft of their story skit
6. Close-Out: I Know My Destiny (Part 1) with staging and movement.
Lesson 3 – Building a Support System & SIC Strategies
1. Empowerment Chant: Ago A-May (adding Part 3).
2. Leadership Activity:
Leadership games (three) in small theater groups
Situational Story 2 – “Our Support System at School” (identify support team members and how to access help)
3. Empowerment Chant: K La Rue’s 6 SIC Strategies

Blow out the fire
Spit out a positive spin
4. Group Theater:
New groups create an enactment using the strategies
Whole group discussion afterward
Continue developing their situational skit draft into a short story
5. Close-Out: I Know My Destiny (Part 2) with staging and movement.
Lesson 4 – Refinement & Leadership Reflection
1. Empowerment Chant: Ago A-May (adding Part 4).
Songs, chants, and movements reinforce the week’s lessons
2. Leadership Activity: Leadership game in small theater groups followed by whole group discussion.
3. Situational Story 3 – “The Eagles Who Thought They Were Chickens”
Group discussion of characters, leadership traits to keep, and behaviors to avoid
4. Empowerment Chant: Rockin’ the RMS Method (whole group) and discussion.
5. Group Theater: Small groups refine their situational stories for presentation.
6. Close-Out: I Know My Destiny (Part 3) with staging and movement.

An open space for movement and large movement activities, for students, teacher (s), support staff to be able to get up and move with in the same space. Teachers and support staff are needed to participate and support students in the activity. table space for smaller groups to write and discuss ideas, plans and presentation practices, an electrical plug-in space to accommodate 3-6 plugs for music & computer. It would be great to have access to a screen to show video/power point information for teaching.
