I can explore and recognize the work of Faith Ringgold. While reading Tar Beach by Faith Ringgold, I can point out who is telling the story at various points in the text. I can select and apply media, techniques and processes using construction paper and crayon to communicate a personal memory, ideas, feelings, experiences and stories to create my story quilt.
In this program, students will have the opportunity to explore the captivating world of Faith Ringgold, an accomplished artist and writer. They will delve into Ringgold's book, "Tar Beach," and learn to identify who is telling the story at various points in the text. Additionally, students will unleash their creativity by crafting a personalized story quilt. Using an array of colors and lines, they will express their individual memories, celebrations, ideas, and emotions, emphasizing the importance of social and emotional learning (SEL). Students will use patterned paper and crayon techniques to fashion their own distinctive and deeply meaningful story quilts.
