I can understand the rich cultural tradition behind the African wrap doll.
I can feel greater self confidence through learning about African American tradition and art form. I can think of different ways to reuse items as art and not trash. |
|
This 90 minute workshop is based on the 18th century traditional wrap doll art form rooted in African American culture. Students are taught the basic techniques necessary to create their own three dimensional characters. This modern adaptation of the art form challenges the students to think outside of the box during the design and construction based on the recyclable materials provided. During the program, the teaching artists lead discussions on the environment, bullying, art history or African American culture based on the needs of the teacher/students.

We travel from Mansfield, MA (1.5-3 hours of travel). Because of this, our preference is to work with all classes on same day.
We also like to pre book snow days with all bookings. We are readily accessible by office and cell phone. |
|
This is a great program for volunteers. It provides an opportunity for dialogue between students and caretakers to discuss difficult topics. Volunteers can assist with encouraging students to think outside of box.
