Inspired by the Amanda Gorman book, 'Change Sings', the Moving Matters! program is designed to enhance and expand the student"s academic, social, emotional, personal and artistic growth through movement, song making and/or the visual arts. The four contact hours begin with reading and discussing the themes in the chosen book while generating ideas for arts explorations. During each class session the students will work as a whole class and in smaller groups further creating through the arts. The final session will offer the option of refining their work for a sharing with other participating classrooms or completing explorations within their own classroom.

Grade 6

Grade 6: Dance: Performing: Anchor Standard 4: Select, analyze, and interpret artistic work for presentation a. Refine partner and ensemble skills in the ability to judge distance and spatial design. Establish diverse pathways, levels, and patterns in space. Maintain focus with partner or group in near and far space.

Grade 7

Grade 7: Reading Standards for Literature 6-12: Craft and Structure 4. Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the impact of rhymes and other repetitions of sounds (e.g., alliteration) on a specific verse or stanza of a poem or section of a story or drama.
Grade 7: Dance: Performing: Anchor Standard 4: Select, analyze, and interpret artistic work for presentation a.Expand movement vocabulary of floor and air pattern designs. Incorporate and modify body designs from different dance genres and styles for the purpose of expanding movement vocabulary to include differently designed shapes and movements for interest and contrast.

Grade 8

Grade 8: Dance: Performing: Anchor Standard 4: Select, analyze, and interpret artistic work for presentation a.Sculpt the body in space and design body shapes in relation to other dancers, objects, and environment. Use focus of eyes during complex floor and air patterns or direct and indirect pathways.
