-I can look at art in different ways and respond and collaboratively share my interpretations with my classmates. -I can understand how artworks can be interpreted as primary source documents. -I can collaborate respectfully with my classmates. -I can apply my understanding of history and the curatorial process to create and curate my own art gallery.
Throughout time, artists have contributed to a visual record of history, depicting people, places, events, and ideas from multiple points of view. Students will develop a new perspective on American history by taking this "What is America? (Interpreting America)" tour, which uses the NBMAA collection as a fascinating visual timeline of primary source documents. Students will collectively analyze and discuss how artists interpret history through symbols and imagery, and think critically as they construct their own interpretations of the past. Following the tour, students will visit the art studio to curate their own miniature exhibit of a variety of artworks that each relate to a predetermined theme or question.
Chaperones are encouraged to participate during school visits! We require at least one chaperone per 10 students, but more are always appreciated and welcomed.
Grade 6
