(Due to the coronavirus each student will be provided with their own materials which will vary and which will be discussed with the teacher.)

-I can discuss key points in the children"s book, "The Fantastic Jungles of Henri Rousseau" by Michelle Markel. - I can discuss the characteristics of multiple habitats around the world, including the rainforest, the desert, the alpine, the woodlands and the marine. - I can create a balanced composition using line, shape and repetition using crayon. - I can write a 2-3 sentence description about my chosen environment, wildlife and pattern.
Students will be introduced to the history, culture and techniques used by the artist Henri Rousseau through the children's book, "The Fantastic Jungles of Henri Rousseau" by Michelle Markel. The students will discuss the multiple habitats around the world, including the rainforest, the desert, the alpine, the woodlands and the marine. They will discuss the characteristics of each location including the living species and the environment. Students will choose a destination they would love to visit. They will understand the way in which pattern and repetition can be used to create a balanced composition using crayon. Emphasis will be made on Rousseau"s perseverance on embracing his own unique style of art and having the students embrace their own individual style. Once finished they will write a 2-3 sentence description about their chosen environment, wildlife and pattern.
Volunteers can help hand out supplies and support students in their composition.

Grade K
