Because this piece includes movement we will need an open space that will allow the dancers to move with space for the audience.
I can use personal experiences and knowledge to make connections to community and culture in a drama/theatre work.

I can explain and compare perspectives of people in the past to those of people in the present.
Listening to our Hearts addresses the importance of having courage in the face of adversity, listening to each other, and finding the common threads that join us all. JDPP will present a selection of pieces in spoken word, dance and song that encourage us to affirm who we are, to have courage in the face of adversity, to listen to each other, and find the common threads that join us all. The presentation is a tribute to strength, resilience, and possibility as demonstrated by the legacy of Martin Luther King. The inspiration behind Listening to Our Hearts was to use movement, song and words to encourage us to affirm who we are, have courage in the face of adversity, to listen to each other, and find the common threads that join us all. It resurrects history from our state by reviving the voices of our ancestors and bringing the art of storytelling to life.

*Because of the nature of the work-the teacher will receive a pre-performance discussion guide. And each performance will end with a talk-back to discuss any thoughts or concerns that may arise.
