Cleared classroom space for workshop visit. Large and open room to accommodate participating classrooms for cumulating sharing such as Auditorium, library or multi-purpose room.
I CAN create short dances that use simple choreographic forms and structures, and that vary the use of dance elements.

I CAN use kinesthetic awareness, control of body, voice, concentration, and focus.

I CAN interpret the meanings of dances created by peers and others.
This program interrelates concepts of science with the elements and language of movement: time, space, level, weight and shape, to explore the world around us. Through a series of movement activities and games we will discover the ways that concepts such as weather, environmental changes; simple machines; planets; and animals can be expressed and better understood through interactive structures and problem solving.

The programs are custom designed to enhance and expand the student"s academic, social and personal growth. Students will then explore ideas as a whole group before breaking into smaller working groups. Next, they will continue the exploration and collaborative process to refine their work. The program will culminate in a sharing amongst the classes.

Grade 6

CT Common Core Standards Grade 6 .3
Concept #5. The molecules that make up all matter are in constant motion. Solids, liquids and gases differ in the movement and arrangements of their molecules. Molecules in gases move randomly and independently of one another. Molecules in liquids move around each other randomly, but are loosely held together by an attraction force. Molecules in solids are closely locked in a patterned position and can only vibrate back and forth. The closer the molecules, the greater their density.

Key Ideas and Details #2
Determine a theme or central idea of a text and how it is conveyed through particular details; provide a summary of the text distinct from personal opinions and judgment.
Dance: Performing
Anchor Standard 5
Develop and refine artistic techniques and work for presentation. A. Embody technical dance skills (for example, alignment, coordination, balance, core support, kinesthetic awareness, clarity of movement) to accurately execute changes of direction, levels, facings, pathways, elevations and landings, extensions of limbs, and movement transitions.

Grade 7

CT Common Core State Standards Grade 7.1
1. In order for an object to change its motion, a push/pull (force) must be applied over a distance.
6. Some simple machines are used to move or lift an object over a greater output distance (snow shovel), or change direction of an object"s motion,
Speaking and Listening Standards
Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher led) with diverse partners on grade 7 topics, texts, and issues, building on others" ideas and expressing their own clearly.
Dance
Anchor Standard 1b
Explore various movement vocabularies to express an artistic intent in choreography. Explain and discuss the choices made using genre-specific dance terminology.

Grade 8

PS2.A: Forces and Motion
For any pair of interacting objects, the force exerted by the first object on the second object is equal in strength to the force that the second object exerts on the first, but in the opposite direction (Newton"s third law). (MS-PS2-1)
The motion of an object is determined by the sum of the forces acting on it; if the total force on the object is not zero, its motion will change. The greater the mass of the object, the greater the force needed to achieve the same change in motion. For any given object, a larger force causes a larger change in motion. (MS-PS2-2)
All positions of objects and the directions of forces and motions must be described in an arbitrarily chosen reference frame and arbitrarily chosen units of size. In order to share information with other people, these choices must also be shared. (MS-PS2-2)
Reading Standards for Literature
Analyze the extent to which a filmed or live production of a story or drama stays faithful to or departs from the text or script, evaluating the choices made by the director or actors.
Dance
Anchor Standard 3a.
Revise choreography collaboratively or independently based on artistic criteria, self-reflection, and the feedback of others. Articulate the reasons for choices and revisions and explain how they clarify and enhance the artistic intent.
