I can understand how a person earns and saves money.
I can differentiate between wants and needs when it comes to spending money. I can put myself in a character's shoes and imagine how he or she must feel. I can make informed predictions about what will happen next as I read. |

The Connections program brings a Hartford Stage teaching artist into the classroom to explore a piece of literature. Connections is a pre-reading residency; throughout the week, the class will explore the characters, plot, themes and suspense points of the chosen piece of literature using theatre techniques such as tableau, pantomime, role-play, dialogue, monologue, text analysis and storytelling - all before reading the book. At the end of the week, each student will receive their own copy of the book to keep and read.
"Rich: A Dyamonde Daniel Book" by Nikki Grimes is about a girl named Dyamonde who learns that being rich doesn't always mean having a lot of money. Through Dyamonde's story, students learn key financial literacy concepts, such as saving and earning , budgeting and spending, and wants vs. needs. |
