I CAN use repeating patterns to understand dance choreography.

I CAN draw or write out shapes and pattterns and translate them to dance moves.

Day One: Administer pretest. Introduction to shapes creation and recognition, perform basic stretches and choreographic movements. Create groups for formations and Freeze Dance game using world music.

Day Two: Familiarize with the floor as our giant canvas, translate shapes on paper to formations with their bodies, students will have the chance to contribute a movement or idea for the dance or warm up. We will complete African/Caribbean dance movements and combine with shape making activity.

Day Three: Administer post test to each student. Practice the class dance. Prepare to perform dance piece for selected audience of students, parents, etc.

Grade 3

Grade 3: Mathematics: Geometry: Reason with shapes and their attributes: Cluster #1: Understand that shapes in different categories (e.g., rhombuses, rectangles, and others) may share attributes (e.g., having four sides), and that the shared attributes can define a larger category (e.g., quadrilaterals). Recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals, and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories.
Grade 3: Dance: Creating: Anchor Standard 2: Organize and develop artistic ideas and work. A. Identify and experiment with choreographic devices to create simple movement patterns and dance structures (for example, AB, ABA, theme and development).
