"Drum Up a Song" is a literacy based music program that gives students a chance to turn a favorite book into a song, turn a favorite song into a poem and create a song of their own. Using drums and percussion, the students will put a Dr. Seuss book to rhythm and take a familiar children's song and read aloud as poetry. We then collaboratively write an original song with a positive message and set it to a rhythm that everyone plays and sings. The teaching artist will be reading/leading musically. .
The classroom teachers are welcome to play along with their students and be present to help with behavioral issues. They are also encourage to videotape, photograph the session for review in the classroom.
