Explore dozens of Pop Up Books by different authors and illustrators. Using paper, glue, and scissors, students will reverse engineer their own pop up cards from premade samples. Envelopes and stamps will be provided to send the cards in the mail. This is a project to write home about! Students will persevere as the investigate the designs of pop-up books specifically a Pop-up speaker, Pop-up Planetarium, and Pop-up string instrument. Students will develop new skills and techniques as they reverse engineer a popup design. Students will gain confidence at the successful completion of the design problem. Students will reflect on their experience in writing via a letter that will be mailed home.

I can reverse engineer a design problem and re-create it with time and material restraints. I can speculate about a process and experiment to develop skills in a similar process. I can write a letter and send it in the mail to tell someone about what I have learned. I can make connections between art/design/ engineering and science concepts such as planetariums and sound waves ( speakers/string instruments)
