The max number of students the Stowe Center can have on a single day is 56, with room for an additional 8 adults. The Stowe House Experience explores the life of Harriet Beecher Stowe, her anti-slavery novel Uncle Tom"s Cabin, its impact and connection to contemporary social issues with K-5 students. Museum educators use inquiry, critical thinking skills and storytelling to engage students in age-appropriate discussions on tours. Visitor-led tour experiences allow museum educators to adjust content based on student ages, gauging students' knowledge and readiness and introducing concepts and terminology appropriate for students' developmental stage. Students will be guided through Stowe"s Hartford home, where each room acts as a spring board to explore and understand the motives that led Stowe to write Uncle Tom"s Cabin and the impact of her novel from her time through today. As students move through the house, storytelling, multimedia, and a hands-on look at primary sources from the past will prompt questions, discussion, connections and ideas to shaping the future. Students are encouraged to consider ways they can take informed action toward social justice and have a positive impact on their communities.
