We need open floor space for all students to sit in a circle to meet the animal and pass biofacts. Additionally, will need tables or desks for group work and drawing. Students will begin sitting in the circle on the floor, move to some group work, return to the circle for sharing and then sit at desks for the drawing portion of the program.

I CAN understand the meaning of "adaptation" and how it is employed by both scientists and artists. I CAN understand that asking questions is often equally important to the answers in the discovery investigation process. I CAN make an observational drawing of an animal inspired by great artists from history.
|
|
Students will discover animal adaptation through both science and art.
In the first half of the program, students will work in groups to collaborate in discovering animal adaptations based on a biofact assigned to the group. During the second half of the program, students will discover famous artists (with a focus on animal art), learn two different drawing techniques and put these techniques into practice when creating their own animal art (containing fantastical animal adaptations) inspired by the live animal they meet. |

Caregiver/teachers are encouraged to help monitor group work and encourage group discussion.
