A streamlined version of the critically acclaimed RapOetry Workshop involving 1 to 4 sessions per class (based on teacher's needs and number of students), and an OPTIONAL recording session or live performance for exceptional students. During creation of a collaborative performance piece (in the genre of Rap/Hip- Hop/Spoken Word poetry) students increase awareness of how rhythm (the use of repetition, tempo, and order) is used to enhance poetry, music, and even communication between students and teachers.
- Part 1: Use a range of traditional and electronic sounds for composition.
- Part 2: Compare spoken and written text, and then choose the words appropriate for their message.
- Part 3: Revise word placement and stress to increase understanding of how poets alter meaning through figurative language, puns, and poetic license.
- Part 4: Use vocal, facial, and physical performance cues.
OPTION 1: At schools with more than 70 students participating, the host teacher may help select students who are ready to record. The RapOet will then guide selected students through a 90-120 minute recording session.
OPTION 2: At schools with more than 100 students participating, the host teacher may choose to have the RapOet perform between 30 minutes to 3hrs, with his DJ and/or Live Band incorporating participation from students and staff!
