The tour of the historic and beautiful Mark Twain House takes 45 minutes. However, the more students that visit, the longer a school needs to be on-site to ensure that everyone sees the house. For large groups, we can add a number of complementary educational programs, as well as time in our galleries, exhibitions, and time for watching a documentary. While each tour will always be 45 minutes, the overall length of a field trip will vary based on the number of students. The total number of students, teachers, and chaperones cannot exceed 70 individuals per visit, but we will gladly work with you to schedule multiple visits if necessary.

I can use art, objects, place, and space as evidence to describe life in historic eras.

I can understand why Hartford was an exciting place to live, and an important location for Mark Twain's writing.

I can speak with confidence about the experiences of Mark Twain, and his family, in historic Hartford.

All students experience a facilitated tour of the historic and beautiful Mark Twain House. During the tour, a museum educator asks them questions designed to guide them in interpreting the space.
We have a significant opportunity for caregiver volunteers serving as chaperones. We request at least one adult for every 13 students, which usually requires that a school provides chaperones.
