Pencils (in the shape of paintbrushes!); student workbooks with worksheets and a word bank; teacher manuals with lesson plans and supplementary materials; two large-scale reproduction posters of landscapes in the museum, USB of program images. May be kept by teachers upon completion of the program.
Teachers will receive a Teacher Discovery Pass, a one-time free pass to explore the museum to prepare for their students" upcoming tour and plan curricular connections. Free busing is offered to all participants. |

Museum on the Move is a fourth-grade art and literacy outreach program that develops students" oral presentation and descriptive writing skills through explorations of landscapes from the permanent collection of the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art. Students learn to "read" and describe works of art, drawing from their imaginations, five senses, personal feelings, and unique perspectives. The artworks serve as students" texts to be closely observed, critically analyzed, and thoughtfully interpreted, and they subsequently act as inspiration for students" own descriptive compositions.

Over the course of four weeks, students participate in a series of activities, including active group discussions, close observation and writing exercises in the classroom and art room, a docent-facilitated lesson at the school, a docent-guided visit at the museum, and a hands-on activity in the art room. Built-in writing assessments will begin and end the program as a way for teachers to measure student growth. At the conclusion of the program, schools will have a ready-made exhibition of artworks and writing assignments. Scheduling for this program is based on school participation and is determined by communicating with Wadsworth staff after booking the program. We have a fixed number of program dates available which will be announced in Summer 2020.
Docent classroom visit takes place in the timeframe of 9:30-10:30 on a date predetermined with the school. Museum visit takes place in the timeframe of 9:30-10:45 AM, on a date predetermined with the school. |

The Wadsworth Atheneum encourages parent participation and seeks opportunities for parents to act as chaperones during tours at the museum. Chaperones accompany students in the galleries while monitoring the behavior of students and must remain with students at all times. There is no additional cost for chaperones. Chaperone guidelines are provided by the museum upon booking.
