Every student makes a Brazilian-style "ganza shaker", a musical instrument that they keep. Students team-up together in pairs for the process. Working with simple tools, their fine and gross motor skills are enhanced. Together with Bob, kids play age-appropriate, musical patterns on their ganzas to launch songs with energetic beats. In addition to learning musical terms and skills, they assimilate the values of self-regulation and following directions. As a follow-up to the activity, educators can lead students to decorate their new instruments. Kids take home ideas and skills to make ganzas with found items to play music with their families, caregivers, friends, and their community.

Teachers are given my play-along CD to use for interactive-music activities throughout the school year.

Six adult family members or caregivers are welcome to attend, and to make their own shaker. They'll take home ideas and skills to play music together with kids and others, and to decorate the shakers. Bob requests advance notification of their attendance to insure having enough of the instrument-making materials.
