Teachers will receive a Teacher Discovery Pass, a one-time free pass that allows them to explore the museum"s galleries to prepare for their students" upcoming tour and plan connections to their classroom teaching.


Writing utensils are provided for the Looking to Write tour.

Free busing is provided by the museum on a first-come, first served basis.

Story Time (grades PreK and K)
Students enjoy the adventure of connecting reading and words to art through the creative window of stories, myths, and tall tales.

Learning to Look (grades K"“5)
Students learn about the elements of art, artistic vocabulary, and the museum experience through careful looking, critical thinking, and discussion.

Step into the Story (grades K-5)
Students examine imagery for narrative elements, learning to read and interpret works of art through character, setting, and plot.

Connecticut People and Places (grades 3"“5)
Students experience Connecticut"s rich history and culture through the events, people, places, and ideas depicted and interpreted in works of art in the collection, many of which were made by Connecticut artists.

American Art (grades 3"“5)
Students use critical thinking skills to interpret American paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts from the Colonial period through today. Curricular connections include Colonial America and the American Revolution.

European Art (grades 3-5)
Students learn to look at visual imagery through an exploration of European paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts representing the medieval era, the Renaissance and Baroque periods, the French Revolution, the late nineteenth century, and the early twentieth century.

Myths, Stories, and Legends (grades 3-5)
Students view examples of ancient art from Greece, Rome, and Egypt, and Asia to explore how elements of these cultures endure in European and American art.

Looking to Write (grades 3"“5)
Students exercise observational, critical thinking, oral presentation, and writing skills, using art as a catalyst. A brief writing activity is included. Tour is 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Consider scheduling multiple visits, to provide an opportunity for students to build upon knowledge and skills established on previous tours.
