Students at individual desks while making their masks and some space inside or outside to explore bird character movements.
I CAN identify similarities and differences in shapes that I use to make a mask. I CAN create my own bird mask. I CAN use my bird mask to create a character through movement.
The art of the mask is one of our oldest forms of storytelling with roots in Africa, and the art form is utilized around the world throughout history to express ideas often without words. Sova Theater shares our own artistic mask & puppetry creations with students. Students cut and construct their own paper bird masks from cardstock. Students will use a variety of shapes in different catagories to add individual features. Students will fold shapes on lines of symmetry to cut out.

Students will use their masks to imagine transforming into a feathered friend character. As a group, students will move to music and explore moving or flocking together.

We will imagine the lives of birds together through movement.
