Program Learning Objective: I can create a composition that will illustrate a job that I aspire to be in the future. Students will understand the background of Thelma Johnson Streat and her artwork. Students will write a brief paragraph describing their composition and what they would like to do for work in the future.
Program Description (Grade Level Program): Students will be introduced to the history, culture and techniques used by the artist, Thelma Johnson Streat with focus on her colorful Medicine and Transportation Mural. The program gives students the opportunity to discuss and shed light on the unique jobs that people do (plumber, painter, custodian) and how they help shape/better the society that we have today. They will visualize and illustrate what they would like to do in the future and their interests. The students will be evaluated informally while they are working on their composition. The formal assessment will be students writing about how they portrayed what they would like to do in the future. Students will be informally evaluated during the class discussion about their neighborhood project.

All lessons will be adjusted based on grade level.
Caregivers can help distribute materials and brainstorm with students.
