The HSO will provide classroom guides to teachers in advance which contain information geared toward kids and their parents, with information about the program, curriculum connections, and activities.
Completing and submitting the program application; Preparing students for the performance using the curriculum (provided by the HSO); Completing the post-concert assessment and sending it back to the HSO; Providing own transportation to and from the concert hall.
I CAN identify grade level-appropriate musical concepts and vocabulary illustrated throughout the concert. I CAN listen critically and comment on what I am hearing in the music. I CAN participate actively by responding to the music with my body through gesture, clapping, and/or dance. I CAN understand and experience music in relation to its historical and cultural context.
In a single year, we experience constant change: our landscapes, our friendships, our emotions, and much more. SEASONS takes audiences on a journey about growing up, learning about the world around us, and caring for our earth.

Grade K

Grade K: Reading Standards for Literature: Integration of Knowledge and Ideas #1: With prompting and support, describe the relationship between illustrations and the story in which they appear (e.g., what moment in a story an illustration depicts).
Grade K: Weather and Climate: K-ESS2-1. Use and share observations of local weather conditions to describe patterns over time. DCI: Weather is the combination of sunlight, wind, snow or rain, and temperature in a particular region at a particular time. People measure these conditions to describe and record the weather and to notice patterns over time.
Grade K: Music: Responding: Interpret intent and meaning in artistic work. A. With guidance, demonstrate awareness of expressive qualities (such as dynamics and tempo) that reflect creators"/performers" expressive intent.

Grade 1: Reading Standards for Literature: Key Ideas and Details #3: Describe characters, settings, and major events in a story, using key details.
Grade 1: Space Systems: Patterns and Cycles: 1-ESS1-2. Make observations at different times of year to relate the amount of daylight to the time of year. DCI: Seasonal patterns of sunrise and sunset can be observed, described, and predicted.
Grade 1: Music: Responding: Perceive and analyze artistic work. A. With limited guidance, identify and demonstrate how personal interests and experiences influence musical selection for specific purposes.

Grade 2

Grade 2: Reading Standards for Literature: Integration of Knowledge and Ideas #3: Compare and contrast two or more versions of the same story (e.g., Cinderella stories) by different authors or from different cultures.
Grade 2: Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems: 2-LS2-1. Plan and conduct an investigation to determine if plants need sunlight and water to grow. DCI: Plants depend on water and light to grow.
Grade 2: Music: Responding: Perceive and analyze artistic work. A. Explain and demonstrate how personal interests and experiences influence musical selection for specific purposes.
Grade 2: Music: Connecting: Relate artistic ideas and works with societal, cultural and historical context to deepen understanding. A. Demonstrate understanding of relationships between music and the other arts, other disciplines, varied contexts, and daily life.

Grade 3

Grade 3: Reading Standards for Literature: Integration of Knowledge and Ideas #1: Explain how specific aspects of a text's illustrations contribute to what is conveyed by the words in a story (e.g., create mood, emphasize aspects of a character or setting).
Grade 3: Weather and Climate: 3-ESS2-1. Represent data in tables and graphical displays to describe typical weather conditions expected during a particular season. DCI: Scientists record patterns of the weather across different times and areas so that they can make predictions about what kind of weather might happen next.
Grade 3: Music: Responding: Perceive and analyze artistic work. A. Demonstrate and describe how selected music connects to and is influenced by specific interests, experiences, or purposes.

Grade 5: Earth"s Systems: 5-ESS3-1. Obtain and combine information about ways individual communities use science ideas to protect the Earth"s resources and environment. DCI: Human activities in agriculture, industry, and everyday life have had major effects on the land, vegetation, streams, ocean, air, and even outer space. But individuals and communities are doing things to help protect Earth"s resources and environments.
