A pre-show study guide is available on The Bushnell's website, www.bushnell.org.
The school is responsible for ordering and paying for bus transportation. When placing your order, please indicate if any of the students have special needs (hearing impairment, wheelchair, etc.) Please read the memoir "Warriors Don't Cry" by Dr. Melba Pattillo Beals, prior the performance. Please remind your students that this is a one-woman performance.
I can read the text and watch a performance of "Warriors Don't Cry" and reflect on the historical and social context.
This original one-woman play has been updated this year!
The play dramatizes Melba Pattillo Beals's searing memoir of the battle to integrate Little Rock's Central High, through the lens of a contemporary young activist who questions: "What does a warrior look like? What is worth fighting for? Can a young person change the world?" Employing sophisticated video technology, original music, spoken word, poetry and prose, the show will be a catalyst for deeper discussion about social responsibility, civil discourse, social media, community engagement and freedom. Warriors Don't Cry is a collaboration between The Bushnell, CT Repertory Theatre, UConn's Department of Digital Media and Design, and TheaterWorksUSA.
There are 200 tickets available for each of the performances. Teachers must provide an exact count when ordering the number of tickets needed for all students, teachers and chaperones.
