Open the Door can be 45-55 minutes depending on grade level.The rehearsal for the selected 12-20 students is held 30 minutes before show time.

The Open the Door show needs an indoor, empty, clean stage or floor space approx. 12 ft deep x 20 ft wide.Also room for the entire audience to sit (floor or chair) comfortably.
1. I can talk to someone when I am angry or having a "bad day". 2. I can "Stop, think, listen & talk" when I am in conflict. 3. I can recognize and help others in distress and not be a bystander. 4. I can teach others the "Open the Door" song and the mime lesson I learned today.
Open the Door is a bullying prevention, conflict resolution, and tolerance school assembly presentation. I rehearse 12-20 students 30 minutes before the program. They become an integral part of the show. My three main principals are: 1. Stop Think Listen Talk, 2. Stand beside someone, do not be a bystander. 3. Open the Door-tell somebody what is bothering you. Subject matter covered changes with grade level.

The price per student drops to $5 for 100 students or above.Open the Door comes with a study guide for pre and post performance activities.
Caregivers can help gather pre selected students for morning rehearsal.They can also be with me during 30 minute pre show rehearsal.

Grade 2

Grade 2: Speaking and Listening Standards: Comprehension and Collaboration #2: Recount or describe key ideas or details from a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other media.
Grade 2: Health: Standard 4: Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks. 4.2.1. Demonstrate healthy ways to express needs, wants, and feelings.
Grade 2: Theatre: Performing: Anchor Standard 5: Develop and refine artistic work for presentation. A. Demonstrate the relationship between and among body, voice, and mind in a guided drama experience(e.g.,process drama, story drama, creative drama.)
Grade 2: Theatre: Connecting: Anchor Standard 10: Synthesize and relate knowledge and personal experiences to make art. A. Relate character experiences to personal experiences in a guided drama experience.(e.g., process drama, story drama, creative drama).

Grade 3

Grade 3: Speaking and Listening Standards: Comprehension and Collaboration #2: Determine the main ideas and supporting details of a text read aloud or information presented in diverse media and formats, including visually, quantitatively, and orally.
Grade 3: Health: Standard 4: Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks. 4.5.3. Demonstrate nonviolent strategies to manage or resolve conflict.
Grade 3: Theatre: Performing: Anchor Standard 5: Develop and refine artistic techniques and work for presentation. A. Participate in a variety of physical, vocal, and cognitive exercises that can be used in a group setting for drama/theatre work.
Grade 3: Theatre: Connecting: Anchor Standard 11: Relate artistic ideas and works with societal, cultural, and historical context to deepen understanding. A. Identify connections to community, social issues and other content areas in drama/theatre work.

Grade 4

Grade 4: Speaking and Listening Standards: Comprehension and Collaboration #2: Paraphrase portions of a text read aloud or information presented in diverse media and formats, including visually, quantitatively, and orally.
Grade 4: Health: Standard 4: Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks. 4.5.3. Demonstrate nonviolent strategies to manage or resolve conflict.
Grade 4: Theatre: Performing: Anchor Standard 6: Convey meaning through the presentation of artistic work. A. Share small-group drama/theatre work, with peers as audience.
Grade 4: Theatre: Connecting: Anchor Standard 11: Relate artistic ideas and works with societal, cultural, and historical context to deepen understanding. A. Respond to community, social issues and incorporate other content areas in drama/theatre work.

Grade 5

Grade 5: Speaking and Listening Standards: Comprehension and Collaboration #3: Summarize the points a speaker makes and explain how each claim is supported by reasons and evidence.
Grade 5: Health: Standard 4: Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks. 4.5.3. Demonstrate nonviolent strategies to manage or resolve conflict.
Grade 5:Theatre: Performing: Anchor Standard 6: Convey meaning through the presentation of artistic work. A. Present drama/theatre work informally to an audience.
Grade 5:Theatre: Connecting: Anchor Standard 11: Relate artistic ideas and works with societal, cultural, and historical context to deepen understanding. A. Investigate historical, global and social issues expressed in drama/theater.
