The Tour of the historic and beautiful Mark Twain House takes 45 minutes. However, the more students that visit, the longer a school needs to be on-site to ensure that everyone sees the House. For large groups, we can add a number of complementary educational programs, as well as time in our galleries, exhibitions, and time for watching a documentary. While each Tour will always be 45 minutes, the overall length of a field trip will vary based on the number of students.

I can use art, objects, place, and space as evidence to describe life in historic eras.

I can understand why Hartford was an exciting place to live, and an important location for Mark Twain's writing.

I can speak with confidence about the experiences of Mark Twain, and his family, in historic Hartford.

All students experience a facilitated tour of the historic and beautiful Mark Twain House. During the Tour, a museum educator asks them questions designed to guide them in interpreting the space. Students in lower grades can have a hands-on component in the tours if requested, while older students will be asked more challenging, grade-appropriate questions.
We have a significant opportunity for caregiver volunteers serving as chaperones. We request at least one adult for every 14 students, which usually requires that a school provides chaperones.
