The programe will demonstrate through a musical performance of selected songs and musical pieces how the music of Latin America and the Caribbean has evolved according to geographic and historical events affecting the region. It will differentiate from grade levels according to information provided by teachers on what the garde level in question is focused on during the time of the presentation.
By listening to the music and musical instruments from Latin America, before and after colonial times, students will experience the use of music in historical and cultural contexts, and get a taste for how cultures have influenced each other and evolved in the Americas from contributions made by Native, Latino, European, and African immigrants that brought their music, songs, dances and instrumentation to their new home far away from their lands. Students will be introduced to the effects of migration on our global society and the value of diversity, innovation and cultural expression.
This program can also apply to the Spanish language subject area for listening and comprehension. This program needs to be in an open classroom or stage setting. A folding table or similar surface is required. This program can be presented to larger groups combined in a single class. For example to a whole grade level at a time.
