1. I can learn to use new and exciting technologies capable of producing professional-quality art.

2. I can research a historical or literary figure and interpret that character into artistic expression; not only do I know about the figure in question - and retain that knowledge by internalizing and processing that knowledge to create new and original works - but the I can translate knowledge into artistic expression.

3. I can combine education with a fun pastime or hobby.
Students will learn to operate digital drawing software and hardware through instructor demonstration, hands-on exercises, and a canvassing of necessary tools. Students will then implement what they learn into a cumulative assignment.

This cumulative assignment will be the creation of a single-panel comic containing a historical or literary figure, explanatory narration, and dialog characteristic of that figure. This assignment will completed in steps: drafting an outline, then script; drawing a page layout with a skeletal outline using a digital pencil; creating an "ink" finished outline of the comic; inserting text.

I will demonstrate use of the Wacom tablet and digital tools while creating an example of the assignment. I will then oversee the students complete their exercises, begin drawing and be available for questions.
The teacher will assist students with the creation of their literary/historical character, and oversee questions about the character's background context.

The first visit will be spent drafting a comic outline/script; drawing concept sketches of the character; and allowing students to orient themselves with the Wacom tablet and software tool tips. The second visit will be spent creating a rough-sketch page layout and drawing with a finishing tool. The third visit will see the completion of finished drawing, insertion of text, and - time permitting - texturing the outline with patterns.
