The school is responsible for ordering and paying for bus transportation. Also, when placing your ticket order, please indicate if any of the students have special needs (hearing impairment, wheelchair, etc.) Please read the memoir "Warriors Don't Cry" by Dr. Melba Pattillo Beals, prior to the performance. It will greatly enhance the experience! Please remind your students that this is a one-woman performance and that this show uses strong, historically accurate language, including the "n" word.
I can read the text and watch a performance of "Warriors Don't Cry" and reflect on the historical and social context.
This one-woman play is adapted verbatim for the stage, based on the Little Rock Nine memoir by Dr. Melba Pattillo Beals. Fifteen-year-old Melba Pattillo endures violence and discrimination as she and eight other African-American students pursue an equal education, and integrate Central High School in 1957. Curriculum connections: social studies, character education, language arts. The same performance is appropriate for Grades 7-8. The performance includes a post-show Q&A, in which students explore themes of bullying, hate speech, and other issues of contemporary importance. This show uses strong, historically accurate language, including the "n" word.
There are 200 tickets available for each of the performances. Teachers must provide an exact count when ordering the number of tickets needed for all students, teachers and chaperones.
